Founded in Zurich in 2016, Kate Vass Galerie was established with a simple conviction: contemporary art should remain contemporary.
Over the last decade, the gallery has evolved alongside the technologies, artists, and communities shaping our cultural moment. What began as a physical exhibition space in Zurich has grown into a global platform operating across exhibitions, art fairs, publications, digital networks, and Web3 ecosystems. From brick to digital, from local conversations to worldwide collaborations, the gallery's journey reflects the transformation of art itself in the twenty-first century.
As new technologies emerge, so do new forms of artistic expression, preservation, ownership, and cultural participation. Our role is not only to exhibit these developments, but to actively engage with them.
Since its inception, Kate Vass Galerie has been at the forefront of digital, generative, AI, and new media art. Landmark exhibitions such as Perfect & Priceless (2018), one of the earliest gallery presentations of CryptoPunks and blockchain-based art, and Automat und Mensch (2019), a survey of the history and future of AI art, helped establish critical frameworks for understanding these emerging movements long before they entered mainstream discourse.
Today, the gallery's activities extend beyond exhibitions only. Through publishing, research, education, advisory services, and on-chain initiatives, we contribute to the preservation and contextualization of digital culture.
Current projects explore artificial intelligence, autonomous agents, digital preservation, cultural archives, and new forms of publishing and collecting enabled by blockchain technologies.
Many artists first exhibited by the gallery have gone on to receive international recognition and are now represented in major museum collections including MoMA, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, LACMA, the Victoria & Albert Museum, ZKM, and numerous private and institutional collections worldwide.
In 2023, the gallery expanded its activities with the launch of on-chain studio K011, a curated on-chain platform dedicated to presenting and preserving digital-native artistic practices on etherium. Together with ongoing publishing projects, including Collecting Art Onchain, these initiatives reflect our belief that the future of art depends on creating the cultural frameworks that allow innovation to endure.
Ten years on, our mission remains unchanged: to support artists working at the edge of culture, to help new ideas find their audience, and to build bridges between art, technology, and society.
