Part of EMERGENCE, the latest incarnation of Stiles’s ongoing HEART MANTRAS project, this work belongs to a series of 27 unique mirror poems, each corresponding to one of the 27 poems at the heart of the browser-based artwork. Together, the mirrors translate the work’s digital ritual into a constellation of physical artifacts.
Developed through an iterative collaboration between Stiles and her AI alter ego, Technelegy, each poem functions like a string of digital prayer beads: words and phrases to be encountered, repeated, reflected upon, and returned to.
Etched into a mirrored surface, language becomes inseparable from the image of the reader. The works extend HEART MANTRAS’ meditation on repetition, consciousness, and becoming, exploring language as a living system and meaning as an emergent property – something continually forming between human and machine, word and reflection, self and other.
